By its very nature, distance education contributes to the development of several skills and abilities,
especially self-discipline, organization, independence, information synthesis, and improved language skills.
Study Wherever and Whenever You Like
At Cégep@distance, there is a continuous intake of students. Since each student's courses are self-contained, you can begin your courses when you want, at any time of the year.
Study at your own pace, when and where you want. You can adjust yourstudy schedule to your family or work commitments. You decide whether you want to finish the required assignments and exams as quickly as possible or to take full advantage of the six months allotted for the completion of each course.
Learning Materials
We recommend that you begin working on a course as soon as you receive your materials, so that you can make some immediate progress and set the pace for your studies.
You will receive course materials by mail or through the Internet. They usually include:
• A user code and a password to log on to the online learning environment
• A study guide
• A workbook or a manual (theoretical content)
• A textbook
• Self-evaluations, exercises, answer keys, and assignments The content may be presented using various media: printed matter, CD's, DVD's, software, websites, etc.
For certain option 15 courses and for all courses with Internet options (55, 65, 75, 85), you must own or have access to a computer with an Internet connection (see Options and definitions - coming soon).
Evaluations
Generally speaking, courses include three to six assignments. All of the assignments for the course must be completed within six months. Next, you have to write the final exam(s) within three months of the date your final assignment is corrected. You choose the date and place to take your exam from the schedule offered by Cégep@distance. Examination sessions are held regularly across Quebec (see the map of examination centres on previous page). Some special conditions apply for certain courses.
We strongly recommend that you complete and submit your first assignment within eight weeks of your registration.
